Energy contracting

Contracting has become both a fashionable and a hopeful concept in the energy industry in the course of the liberalisation process. Contracting was used as early as the 1960’s in the area of production sites as a contract form and became known in the energy industry in the 1990’s. Since then, contracting is one of the few growth markets in the (energy) service sector in Germany with presently little competition.

Due to the complexity of a multitude of touching points and relationships, reaching a contracting agreement can still be very complicated and time-consuming for both sides – user and provider of contracting services. A further circulation of contracting will standardise the currently quite voluminous agreements and integrate them into business routine.

Against the background of rising energy prices, a tense financial situation (especially in the municipal and public sector) and other reasons, contracting is more and more considered as a serious option during the search for alternative energy supply solutions of potential customer groups like industry, communities, public facilities, apartment and realty economy and hospitals. With regards to competition it needs to be said, that the current regional focus of many providers of contracting gradually dissolves. Stakeholders operating on a federal level are therefore in direct competition to regional companies. Additionally, recently regionally operating competitors will expand their marketing area. Because of the growing penetration of the market by contracting there will be a stronger competition for prices, soon. The stakeholders will struggle for the well-known and attractive sites and projects in particular, especially where existing contracting agreements are about to end.

trend:research published numerous extensive studies for particular target customer groups (e.g. industry, communities, realty agencies) and regions as well as different media (e.g. cooling energy or compressed air) in past years, based on a master study regarding the complete contracting market.
